A Long Time Ago/Noah’s Ark Shanty/In Frisco Bay

A Long Time Ago è un refrain che ricorre in molte sea shanty: lo troviamo sotto il titolo di Noah’s Ark Shanty e di In Frisco Bay, ma anche con A Hundred Years ago. Le versioni di questa “famiglia” di shanty sono tantissime ed è perciò ardua una classificazione.
“A Long Time Ago è una delle shanties con il maggior numero di varianti. I vecchi marinai ricorderanno così tante diverse versioni come “There were two Ships in Callao Bay”, “Noah built this Wonderful Ark” and “A Hundred Years is a Very Long Time”, ma all’inizio erano tutte la stessa canzone.”

A Long Time Ago is a refrain that recurs in many sea shanties: we find it under the title of Noah’s Ark Shanty and In Frisco Bay, but also with A Hundred Years ago.
The versions are many and it is therefore difficult to classify.
