In the Scottish tradition among the ritual songs / invocations / prayers this “Tha Bainne aig na Caoraich Uile” (All the sheep have milk) – an invocation (thanksgiving prayer) for the abundance of milk from the udders of the sheep- had to be common at Imbolc to ensure a thriving growth to the lambs.
The song is now sung in a set of songs with the generic title of “Puirt a Beul”, that is, the traditional Celtic singing (mouth music).
For example, Sìleas places it in this combination:
a) Tha Bainn’ Aig Na Caoraich Uile
b) Sheatadh Cailleach, Ruilleach Cailleach
c) Thoir A Nall Ailean Thugam
Sìleas Puirt a Beul – Beating Harps 1988:
Tha Bainn’ Aig Na Caoraich Uile is composed of two stanzas repeated three times
Gàidhlig (Scottish Gaelic)
I
Tha bainn’ aig na caoraich uile
Tha bainn’ aig na caoraich uile
Tha bainn’ aig na caoraich uile
‘S galan a’chaora chruim
II
