Isola di Man

Mann (Isle of Man) is a small island in the Irish Sea, whose traditional music has experienced a revival in the 1970s along with the renewed interest in local Gaelic and more generally popular culture.
Today Gaelic is taught thanks to the records of the 50-70 years released by the last mannesi who spoke the Gaelic language as their mother tongue. A great contribution to the compilation was made by Mona Douglas (1898-1987) who began to collect the songs from 1914 and until 1950 and did a great job of classification and translation.
Manx is very similar to the Scottish Gaelic and Irish; the last person who spoke to him as a mother tongue died in 1974.
According to the myth, Finn MacCool (the giant Irish champion of Ulster) to stop his Scottish enemy, he picked up a handful of earth and threw it at the fleeing opponent, missing him. The land that fell into the sea became the Isle of Man while the hole left in the ground became the lake of Neagh.
