Ar bhantaibh an tSróil sea d’fhagas mo stór,
‘S a maithrín ag gleo gan dabht léi.
‘D taobh grá ‘ thabhairt dom shórt sa d’fhánaí gan treoir,
Gan cairne buí óir i gcabhair dom.
‘S í an bháb mhiochair modhail [mhodúil] ‘ chuir bláth ar mo sceol,
‘S is páiste bhí óg gan dabht í
‘S nach breá deas mo shórt ag geáitseáil ar bord,
Le cailín na gruaige doinne.

Is ‘neosfad mo stair dom mhuintir ar fad.
Cé cloíte go lag gan mheabhair mé,
Ag smaoineamh ‘s ag brath ‘s ag tnuth len í theacht
Gach oíche ‘gus maidin Domhnaigh.
Rince go pras, aoibhneas ná cleas,
Ní smaoiním le heaspa meabhrach,
Ach mo croí istigh a shlad le dian-díograis searc,
Do chailín na gruaige doinne.
III
Is tréithlag a bhím gan éinne dem bhuíon
Ag déanamh aon suim’ sa domhan díom,
‘S is baolach dá dhroim go n-éagfad gan mhoill,
Am éigin ar dith mo mheabhrach,
Le saorghuth a cinn go léimid aníos,
Na héisc as an linn ag leabhaireach,
`S dá bhreáthacht sin mar ní, ní shásódh mo chroí,
Gan cailín na gruaige doinne.
(tratta da qui) I On the plains of Sroil (1) I left my love And her mother, no doubt, was arguing with her About the love she gave my kind, an aimless wanderer, With no stack of gold to succour(help) me. This modest maiden gave my life bloom And she’s a young child, without doubt. Isn’t is great (nice) for me to be showing off (2) with The girl with the brown hair II I tell my tale to my own folk all together How defeated, weak and senseless I am Thinking, feeling and hoping for her return Each evening and Sunday morning. Of lively dancing (3) , beauty nor cleverness I can’t think for the loss of my senses. But the heart of my heart Has been plundered (robbed ) by an intense fervent love For the girl with the brown hair III I am exhausted without anyone of my company (4) Taking an interest in my well-being (5). There is a danger that I might soon be lost, (6) Being left without my reason because of her. At the sound of her voice (7) Fish leap lithely from their pool (8) Her beauty is such that my heart would never be satisfied (9) Without the girl with the brown hair |
