Robert Burns ha saputo “arrangiare” il materiale musicale della tradizione popolare scozzese per dargli nuova vita e popolarità, così di questa canzone “Up in the Morning Early” (pubblicata nel 1788) solo il ritornello proviene da una vecchia canzone mentre le strofe sono state scritte dal bardo.
