I più sono propensi a ritenere che “The Leaving of Limerick” sia apparsa nel decennio della pubblicazione di “Shantyboys and Shantymen” nel 1951 (nella quale è per l’appunto riportata “The Leaving of Liverpool” nella versione “Maitland”)
GUIDA ALL’ASCOLTO
Gli interpreti irlandesi la cantano “The Leaving of Limerick a una sola voce secondo lo stile detto “sean nos” tutt’al più facendosi accompagnare dalla chitarra.

I) As I roved out one evening down by the Assembly Mall I heard two lovers speaking as me and my love passed onAnd the words they spoke between them, they were but very few It’s not the leaving of Limerick that grieves me, But my darling leaving you!
II) In the morning when I’m going, I’ll take you by the lily-white hand, And I’ll wave it over my shoulder, in adieu to the Limerick StrandSo farewell to the boys of Thomond Gate, it’s to them I bid adieuIt isn’t the leaving of Limerick that grieves me, But my darling leaving you!
III) And now that we must be parted I know you will understand Why I must go broken hearted far away from my native landThough, my fond love, I must leave you, you know my heart it is trueIt isn’t the leaving of Limerick that grieves me, But my darling leaving you!
