Skipper Jan Rebeck è una sea shanty composta molto recentemente da Angus Russell[1] su una piacevole melodia un po’ swing. A rigore quindi non una sea shanty cantata all’epoca dei grandi velieri, sebbene lo stile sia decisamente marinaresco.
Jan Rebek potrebbe essere l’olandese Jan van Riebeeck, vissuto nella seconda metà del Seicento, conosciuto nei Sette Mari come esploratore e “colonizzatore” al servizio della Compagnia Olandese delle Indie Orientali, e noto principalmente per aver fondato Città del Capo in Sudafrica.
Ma nell’Europa dell’Est corre voce sia stato un pirata dallo origini polacche che navigava su un brigantino olandese!!
