RIFERIMENTI
Shanties from the Seven Seas(II)(p230-1)
Shanties from the Seven Seas (complete)(p308-9)

(Oh! I love the sailor and the sailor loves me
He comes to my window ev´ry morning at three)
[Heave away, heave away, got to earn your pay.
Heave away, heave away, sane as yesterday.]
(I loves a fat widow down Rotherhithe way
An´ when she next sees me, to me she will say)
[Matty White loved a woman in the usual way
And whenever she sees him she will always say.]
“Oh, me Matty/Johnny, I’ve waited for you to return,
So that now I can spend all the money you earn.”
And whenever they are happy they toll the bell,
And whenever they’re not you can all go to hell.
Heave away, now, me bullies, for Mobile Bay,
Where the girls look so pretty
as they spend your pay/half pay.
When I was young man, and in my prime,
I would love all the girls, sometimes two at a time.
[But now I’m too old for to heave and to haul.
And I’d rather have a bottle, be it empty, be it full.]

Stan Hugill more verses (cf)
Oh, roll the ol´ chariot, long may she roll
Why don´t the mate shake her, oh, God damn his soul.
But now I´m an old man an´ don´t feel so young
I´d sooner have lashin´s an´ lashin´s o´ rum.
Oh, I´ve got a sister and she’s nine foot tall
She sleeps in the kitchen with her feet in the hall

(Oh amo i marinai e i marinai mi amano

Ulteriori versi in Stan Hugill
