Robert Burns ha saputo “arrangiare” il materiale musicale della tradizione popolare scozzese per dargli nuova vita e popolarità, così di questa canzone “Up in the Morning Early” (pubblicata nel 1788) solo il ritornello proviene da una vecchia canzone mentre le strofe sono state scritte dal bardo.
La canzone è breve ed è dedicata a tutti quelli con il metabolismo più lento di buon mattino soprattutto se è Inverno: se siete dei tira-tardi questa è la vostra canzone per la sveglia invernale (per rigirarsi subito nel calduccio del letto, dopo aver gettato una fuggevole occhiata fuori dalla finestra)
