“Hanging Johnny” è una canzone marinaresca del tipo  halyard shanty  ( i lavori alle scotte e drizze per issare e ammainare vele e pennoni) in cui si parla di un presunto boia che impicca (ovvero manda a quel paese bonariamente) tutti coloro che gli danno fastidio!
